Randy Severson, President, has been using corn for a fuel source to heat his farm shop for several years.
Randy has researched and tested several systems and developed our current patent pending burn system.
This system utilizes corn that may contain fines, small pieces of cob and stalk.
The moisture of the corn used should be 13 to 15.5 percent.
The corn is delivered from the hopper to the burn pot, from the top.
The combustion air is introduced from the top.
This system allows the SAR furnaces a complete burn process, the corn is burned at a high temperature,
changing the corn ash to a liquid slag which forms a compact ash "clinker" in the burn pot. The clinker in the
burn pot acts as the system's pilot light, allowing the furnace to shut down. On a call for heat from the thermostat,
the combustion blower will turn on, heating the clinker. After a 15 second delay, the auger will turn on and deliver
corn to the burn pot. The heated clinker will ignite the corn, which will burn until the thermostat has met the set
temperature, turning off the auger and the combustion fan. The hot air blower will turn on as the heat exchanger heats.
The high limit safety switch fan control has set points that will turn the blower on and off.
On a call for heat by the thermostat, or in the cycle mode, if the low limit safety switch detects that the flue temperature
is not high enough to allow the system a re-ignition source, the auger will not turn on.
If the hot air blower fan would fail, the high limit safety switch will shut down the auger and combustion blower.
The system will remain off until the reset button is manually pushed.
The SAR Model 100 H and 200 H units have been independently tested by Warnock Hersey Laboratories in
accordance to the UL standard 391.
The SAR Model 100 S and 200 S units have been independently tested by Warnock Hersey Laboratories in
accordance with the proposed ASTM E Standards and applicable portions of the UL standard1482.
The safety-listing label is located on the outside of the hopper end of the units, assuring you of a safe and quality
appliance.
The SAR furnaces are constructed from 14-gauge steel in the heat exchanger and 14 gauge tubes on the Shop models.
The finish on all painted parts is powder coated baked paint. This coverage is applied on each panel, 100% coverage
inside and out. Ensuring a durable, long lasting finish.
Our economy and environment continue to be affected by energy consumption and production.
As we look to find methods to manage energy resources in ways that will lesson impacts on the environment,
renewable energy will be one of those factors. Using corn produced locally will help create economic
opportunities and improve our environment by decreased pollution.
